The role of Principal Investigator is only relevant to a multi-site study - that is when a part or parts of the study are conducted where the Study Director cannot exercise on-site control.
A Principal Investigator:
- Is designated in a multi-site study
- Should be appropriately trained, qualified and experienced to supervise the delegated phase of the study - and
- Will ensure that the delegated phases of the study are conducted in accordance with the Principles of Good Laboratory Practice.
