Development in the 1970s
Until the mid 1970s reports on studies demonstrating the safety of industrial chemicals, potential drugs and pesticides submitted to the authorities were, on the whole, accepted without question. Scientists were trusted to provide complete, accurate and unbiased data.
But in 1976 events in the USA changed all this, and the consequences were far-reaching. They resulted in the development of the Good Laboratory Practice Principles which are now applied world-wide.
