The Regulatory Setting – Codes of Practice

There are other recognised codes of practice which may also be applicable to an organisation. For example, many of the research councils and grant giving bodies in the UK will expect scientific research organisations, such as university laboratories, to have quality systems in place that comply with the Joint Code of Practice for Research. It may not be a legal requirement, but without evidence of compliance no funding will be awarded.

Finally, some organisations may set their own standards. Certainly, in the absence of other applicable regulations or guidance, this would form an appropriate basis for a quality management system, and would help provide robust systems and well-supported data.
