Whilst the Tuskegee sharecroppers incident was undetected by the public at large for 40 years, the medical experimentation in Nazi concentration camps was revealed in the Nuremberg trials.

Prisoners in camps such as Auschwitz were subjected to the most appalling experimentation, including researching the effects of:

  • Incendiary bombs
  • Mustard gas and other poisons
  • Altitude
  • Sea water
  • Freezing experiments
  • Surgical procedures

Prisoners were coerced into participating and consent was not even considered. Most of the experiments resulted in either death, disfigurement or permanent disability. These experiments were supposed to increase the Third Reich's knowledge of combat conditions and the treatment of injured soldiers.
