Short-Term Study

Short-term studies fall into two categories:

Biological studies - such as acute toxicity studies, some mutagenicity studies and acute eco-toxicological studies.

Or

Physical-chemical studies - where tests or measurements take typically no more than a working week, and yield easily repeatable results often expressed by simple numerical values.

Standard, published methodologies, including OECD test guidelines, are often used in short-term studies.

Guidance on how to interpret some of the Good Laboratory Practice requirements without compromising compliance can be found in the OECD Consensus Document No. 7 The Application of the Good Laboratory Practice Principles to Short Term Studies.
