Global Acceptance of Good Laboratory Practice in the 1980s
Following these events in the USA the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) recognised the need for an international agreement on Good Laboratory Practice.
In 1978 the OECD established an expert group on Good Laboratory Practice. The group was led by the USA and included representation from 17 of its member countries, the World Health Organisation (WHO), the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and the European Community Commission.
The US FDA GLP regulations were used as the basis for the development of the OECD Principles of GLP.
